International Natural Hair Meetup Day - #INHMD

On Saturday May 18th I attended International Natural Hair Meetup Day hosted by Joy, The Boogiedown Beauty and leader of Boogie Down Beauties, a Bronx NY natural hair group. The event took place at Imagenation Raw Space, 2031 Adam Clayton Blvd in Harlem NY from 6pm to 9pm. I arrived alittle before 7pm and on my way I was bombarded by natural haired beauties headed to the train with white "Curls Unleashed" swag bags. I stopped to talk to two ladies about the event then continued on. 

There were two ladies sitting by the door to greet guests, lots of ladies inside, as well as Joy(BDB) and Karen Tappin from Karen's Body Beautiful doing some mingling. There was also a yoga demo, announcements from Joy, and a Q&A session with Karen(the video is below). I got my swag bag upon entering and proceeded to mingle and take pictures. I met some friends; Monet of Curls and Mo, Erma of The Pomade Shop, and Gina of FireLina.com. The event was a huge success. From the outside looking in everything ran smoothly. I would definitely recommend attending Boogie Down Beauty events. Joy is such a pleasure to be around and I appreciate her repping for The BX.

I'm officially back

This is my new jam!

So I'm back like fo' real fo' reals. I've wanted to come back but was craving a new direction and now I think I've found it. This blog was started to document my hair journey transitioning to natural hair and along the way I learned that I'm not just about my hair. I've discovered new talents, gotten into business, learned how to thrift shop(and my wardrobe thanks me for.it), interacted with bloggers online and in person, etc., etc.

Blogging has really helped me grow and with that being said I'd like to turn Guyanesesista.com into more than just a hair blog. I want to share more with my readers. It will be a bit more of a lifestyle blog. Hence the new tagline: "The Woman, her hair & three sewing machines".There will still be hair posts but also event, DIY, outfit of the day(I notice that every once in a while I surprise myself), thrift store alterations,etc. There will also be a new layout in the near future.

I'm still alive & kicking.

Ok so I"m dusting the cobwebs off this bad boy. I've been gone for months because life got in the the way. You know how it is... but I'm back. My hair has gotten longer, people have big chopped... so many changes since November. I have some new stuff in store. May even change the look. Not sure what design to go with yet. So here's wishing you all health and hip length hair.

I found this pic in my fotki album which I haven't updated in over 3 years. This was the summer of 2007. My hair was going so well but this is the hair style that started a lot of breakage because of the drying hard brown gel. But I absolutely LOVED it. This is the only thing I miss about being relaxed. I just can't replicate this on type 4ab natural hair. Ah well, at least I have this picture. I'll be sharing more throw backs over time.
